My Frugal Win of the Week is a grocery bill of $44 thanks to shopping my pantry and freezer. I decided this week I would forgo my usual grocery shopping trip of $150 for our family of three in lieu of eating the items we currently own. I tend to spend all of our weekly grocery budget by stocking up on pantry items and meat with any money left over after buying our weekly necessities, so there is almost always some type of protein in the freezer that can easily be paired with some type of carb in the pantry. Add a few fresh veggies and you’ve got yourself a cheap week of meals.
Now don’t get me wrong…we are eating pancakes and eggs for dinner one night and another night will likely be tuna sandwiches, but it’s a great way to use up some items that have been sitting in the pantry for a while (looking at you canned tuna) and save a little money. Yes, I will need to restock but I will do it weekly so my budget won’t take such a hit and as I recently stocked up on toilet paper and paper towels, along with other personal items like shampoo, I can reallocate some money from our “household goods” budget if needed should I find a great deal on a food that I can’t pass up.
Additionally, I reorganized my vanity and found two bottles of lotion under there that I didn’t know I had, so I was able to remove that item from my grocery list for the week as well. Double win!
